The longest and most extensive international concert and educational tour of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s life took the ten-year-old through Switzerland in the late summer and autumn of 1766, a journey he made with his family by horse-drawn carriage.
Following a concert tour of Western Europe that lasted three and a half years, the Mozart family arrived in Geneva from Lyon around August 20th. Wolfgang Amadeus was accompanied by his parents, Leopold and Anna Maria; his sister "Nannerl," who was also highly musical; a servant; and a coachman. The family did not continue their journey to Donaueschingen—via Schaffhausen—until October 16th. The Mozarts performed for enthusiastic audiences in Geneva, Lausanne, Bern, Zurich, and Schaffhausen.
